    He we was heir to his older brother, Christopher who died without issue. He was the High Sheriff of Ripon and the M.P. for Yorkshire in 1585. In his will dated 1586, he only names some of his children in the following order: John, George, Thomas, Christopher, Robert, and Francis. There are several additional children listed for this William at www.flash.net/~barker/html1/d0003/g0000220.htm. (F-511, 527) His will was not probated until Apr 5, 1603.

    Sir married Lady Ursula Ann GALE, Countess of Studeley Royal on 16 Jan 1547 in Malpas, Cheshire, England UK.     Notes:

    He was Lord of Studley Royal and Hutton Conyers. He sold Washington Old Hall in 1613 and while in England, he signed the 2nd Virginia Charter on May 23, 1609 showing that he had a vested interest in the Virginia Colony. The charter was created and signed by more than a hundred investors in Westminster, England. Though some sources say he never actually visited Virginia, others say he arrived at Jamestown in 1607 along with the full group that was greeted by Powhattan, father of Pocahontas. This is the person who United Ancestries has as the father of our Peter Mallory who died in Fairfield, CT. However, information from Gene Mallory states that he and Anne had a son named Peter in 1576, much too soon to be our Peter Mallory. It is possible that our Peter descended from Sir John through his sons. Another theory we're currently studying is that our Peter is descended from the Bermuda Mallories whom also are related to the Mallories of "Washington Old Hall" according to Mallory Smith. Many of the persons that signed the 2nd charter were from Bermuda and this would be a possible scenario, especially since his wife, Anne's father had ties with a Forster family in England and Bermuda.     Thomas was the Dean of Chester. He became the progenitor of the Virginia Mallorys. His children were: William who was knighted in 1642 and died without issue, Thomas, the Reverend; and George, Curate of Mobberley. (F-628) His grandson, Rev. John Holdsworth Mallory was granted in 1663 a Coat of Arms and Crest of a canton az. This is the only Coat of Arms listed for the Chester Branch of Mallorys listed in the "General Armory of England, Scotland, Ireland and Wales." There appear to be about 5 different types of Coats of Arms for the families bearing the name Mallory but this is the only one for the familial line living in Chester.

William was the firstborn with an estimated birth date of 1578 in Smith's book and the firstborn with his birth date being Oct. 7, 1585 in the a.m. from Mary's R. Mallory's research in the early 1900's. If this 1585 birthdate is correct, then he was not likely his father's firstborn son. (F-635)

    He and others were entrusted with the Manor of Jarrow by William Lord Eure in 1616. At least by timing and place, it's likely that this William is the William who received rights to the Manor at Jarrow.

    An individual record in the Family Search Pedigree Resource File lists him as the son of William and Ursula Gale. Other more respected sources do not include him. (F-640)

    There is a Rafe Mallory baptized as the son of a Peter Mallory in Cambridgeshire, England in 1583 that could be him also. It is conjecture that he is the son of the Peter Mallory that is listed.

In a history about Cheshire, the following information applies to this Reverend Thomas Mallory. "Between his matriculation and his appointment to the living of Northenden, (Cheshire), Thomas Mallory junior was a curate, perhaps at Davenham (was Easington, Oxfordshire according to Virginia Heraldic). His younger brother, George, was curate under his father at Mobberley. By 1635 Thomas Mallory junior had acquired a wife, Jane, and children, one of whom, Fran

    Notes:

    He was knighted in London in 1642 according to the "General Amory of England, Scotland, Ireland and Wales." His Coat of Arms was a "Or (gold) lion ramp. gu.(gules) collared ar(argent)". This means that the background is gold. The lion is red and he is wearing a collar in silver. His crest was "A nags head couped gu(gules or red)." A crest is something worn on top of the shield like a helmet. The couped means that the head was cut off by an even line being drawn below it. His son, John Holdsworth Mallory is listed as "the same Arms and Crest. canton az(azure or blue)." I believe this means that he has the same lion coat and crest but he also has a blue top left hand corner on his Coat of Arms and crest. (F-635)

    This red lion rampart (viewed from the side) is the most common of the Mallory families crest. Some of the family has more than one lion in their crest, but they appear to be of the same familial line. I am deducing that since our Peter does not have the same DNA as this family, then we need to look at the crests for the two other Mallory families that have varying crests for his descent.

    This is what is written about Philip Mallory in the Encyclopedia of Virginia Biography. He "came of an ancient and distinguished family in Yorkshire. He was son of Thomas Mallory, dean of Chester, was baptized April 29, 1618, and was matriculated May 28, 1634, at Corpus Christi College. B. A. from St. Mary's Hall, April 27, 1637; M. A. January 16, 1639-1640 and was rector of Norton, county Durham, from 1641 to 1644 when he was ejected by the parliamentary authorities. He is said to have gone with Prince Rupert's fleet to the West Indies. The date of Mr. Mallory's arrival in Virginia is not known but in 1656 he was appointed together with Mr. John Green to examine all ministerial candidates for parishes. In September, 1660, he officiated as a minister in York county at the celebration of the restoration of Charles II. In March, 1661, he was sent to England by the general assembly in regard to church affairs, and died in London soon after his arrival. He left all his Virginia estate to his nephew, Roger Mallory, from whom the Virginia family descends, and among his legacies was what is written about Philip Mallory in the Encyclopedia of Virginia. He can be remembered for "erecting and building a college in Virginia." He married Catherine, daughter of Robert Batte, vice-master of University College, Oxford, but had no issue.
