1. | ![]() Notes: When George marries Hannah in 1734, his father, Abraham is listed as "late of Cecil County in Maryland but now (living) on the North side of Overton in the Colony of Virginia." His parents and the following siblings attended his wedding. Mary, Lydia, and Isaac Hollingsworth, plus probable spouses named Lydia, Mary and Mary Hollingsworth. Other close relatives in the right hand column were Isaac and Mary Parkins, Esther Harrison, Elizabeth Rerpo?, and Josiah Calvert. No Mccoys were amongst the guest list. George Hollingsworth was appointed Overseer of the road from Littlers to Hollingsworth's Mill in the Orange Co., VA Road Orders, Aug. 26, 1742. A George was listed in the Rent Rolls for Frederick Co., VA in 1759 and 1764 that is likely to be him. George was granted 350 acres of land in Craven Co., NC on a branch of Little River called Mudlick Creek on Feb. 3, 1767. He and his wife, "Jean", sold 155 acres of it to John Williams on July 1772. Witnesses were Joseph Hollingsworth, Quaker, George and James Hollingsworth (his sons). It also states that George gave some of his original land grant to son Joseph. Joseph gave it to David Hollingsworth. David sold it to James Burnside on Sept. 15, 1813-Jan. 1814. (C-2279) George married Hannah MCCOY on 19 Dec 1734 in , Frederick, VA. Hannah (daughter of Robert MCCOY, Sr.) died after 1748. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]

(C-610, 1546) He moved from Virginia to South Carolina in 1767. (C-265) He apparently purchased 100 acres in Craven Co. on the waters of the Little River shortly before marrying on Sept. 29, 1772. His land was bounded by Abraham Hollingsworth. (C-947) According to Eli Jay, he was the leader of the Quaker movement to Ohio in 1804. (C-1546) In any case, he and his family got a certificate to move to Miami MM, Oh on Aug. 8, 1805. (C-106) They had sold their land of 100 plus acres in Newberry Co., SC to Samuel Cothran on July 12 of that same year. He is in the 1790 census with these children, his second wife and two more children he had had with Sarah Wright. A James & family moved to Miami MM, OH and got a certificate from Bush River MM, SC on Aug. 8, 1805. He is listed in the 1810 and 1816 tax records for Miami Co., Ohio. According to Hinshaw, this would be the James that moved with his brother's Isaac, George and Nathan who moved to Ohio with descendants going to Indiana and Iowa. I had information that he was the James who died in SC in 1821, but this is probably confused with another James. (C-96, 457, p.92, 1025, 2034) Family/Spouse: Agnes EVANS. In the 1820 census for Adams Twp., Darke Co., Ohio, Henry lists himself as over 45. There is a female under age 10, one from 10-16, one from 16-18, and one from 26-45. He was engaged in agriculture. (C-130) Henry and Sarah deeded 150 acres to Isaac, his probable son in Darke Co., Ohio on Aug. 24, 1823. (C-125) His estate was probated the next year in 1824 in Darke Co., Ohio, Ib2, p. 43, fbh. 16. | ![]() ![]() Notes: John's wife's name is very much theory, based upon original conjecture by Mary Helen Pemberton. She is the one who surmised that the wife's name was Susan Brock, d. of Elias Brock and Ann Hollingsworth. We suspect that her first name was accurate, as multiple grandchildren were named Susan. We cannot find John Sr anywhere after the 1830 Census. However, there is a Susana Coats living in Newton Twp., Miami Co., Ohio in the 1840 census at age 50-60 and listed as the head of household that could account for her. These are the ages of members of the household that belonged to her. Herself, 2 males from 15-20 and 2 females from 10-15. It would have to be grandchildren to account for the ages of people on the farm when the census was taken. Susana married John M. COATS after 1788. In the 1827, 1830, 1835, 1840 and 1850 census records he lived in Monroe Twp., Miami Co., Ohio Some of the land he was selling was also in Union Twp., Miami Co., Ohio He wrote his will and it was probated in Miami Co. in 1854. 21. | ![]() ![]() Notes: This Isaac's info is listed in the Williard Heiss Indiana Quaker MM Volumn 3. According to Coppock researcher Joanne H., the the 1850 census states that Isaac and Jane did not have children until 1828 and Jane was only age 46 at the time. This is incorrect according to Williard Heiss info on Monthly Meeting info from Indiana... she would have been at least 48 and almost 49 years of age. Jane was Isaac's first wife. 33. | ![]() ![]() Notes: Some data says that Rebecca Coats was married to Bayvill Hanson in 1818. I believe this is a misinterpretation of the spelling of his name. I say this because there is a Rebecca Coats, b. abt 1797 in SC, who married a Barzilla Harrison in Miami Co., OH in 1818. The dates and the names are a match. Plus if her husband was Barzilla, he is listed in the 1827 tax lists for Miami Co., OH living in Newberry Twp. Rebecca married Barzilla HARRISON on 10 Aug 1818 in , Miami, OH, USA. Barzilla died after 1827 in Of Newberry Twp., Miami, OH. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart] |
34. | ![]() ![]() Notes: In 1835, Susan and her husband, Peter Spillers are living in Newberry Twp., Miami Co., OH near sons of John and Susan Coate and near possible sons of Stephen Marmaduke Coate. She could be a child of either family as far as I can tell. She and her family apparently later moved to Randolph County, Indiana and in the 1850's to Cooper Co., Missouri. Her birth and death dates come from her cemetery stone in Missouri. Susanna married Peter Julius SPILLERS on 13 May 1820 in Newberry Twp., Miami, OH, USA. 38. | ![]() ![]() Notes: George was married 4 times and was a (Christian Church) minister. He along with his brother John were founding members of the Greenville Creek Church of Christ established on Aug. 9, 1943. He is likely to be the George Coats who was living in Newberry Twp., Miami Co., OH in the 1850 U.S. census. After he married Martha Martindale as his last wife, he and his family moved to Benton Co., Iowa. Sometime around 1859 they lived in Benton Co., Iowa and sold land in Miami Co., Ohio to John (Harstry). Samuel J. Coate was a witness to this deed. (C-2564) Martha and George had 4 more children, 2 of which lived to adulthood. One of these children, Ranalden Lycurgus Coats, went with Martha to southern California after George died. The other surviving child (also a boy) lived in the Chicago area. George's family bible is in the possession of Eddie Rodriguez, a step-grandson of George. There are many other records that could apply to this family, but it appears that they are living in Newberry Twp., Miami Co., OH census records from 1830 to 1860. Samuel is likely the one buried in 1877 in Miami Co., Ohio. Mary is possibly the Mary Hoover who died in 1873 in Miami Co., Ohio. Richard Morgan has 2nd hand information that states her husband was Robert Ramage, b. in 1788 instead of Samuel Hoover. Mary married Samuel HOOVER on 24 Jul 1828 in , Miami, OH, USA.
