    Notes:

Henry witnessed several marriages in County Armagh, Ireland starting at age 20 in 1678. He signed his name Henry Hollingsworth. His grandfather, Henry, signed his name as Hen: Hollensworth. Henry made a couple trips to the American colonies, one in 1683. He made this trip on the "Lyon" as an indentured servant to Robert Turner of Dublin for two years starting Oct. 8, 1685. He apparently traveled back and forth to Ireland as he is a witness to several marriages from Oct. 1685 through 1688. He is during this same time period in the Newark Kennett Monthly Meeting Records in what was then Pennsylvania. He was in them in the 9th mo., 1687 when he declared his intentions to return to Ireland to marry and when he was appointed to check on the order of the Whitely Creek Monthly Meeting. On the 12th mo, 4th day, 1687, Newark decided to grant him a certificate to Ireland to achieve just that. In 1688 he married Lydia Atkinson in Co. Armaugh, IRL. The same month in which he married, he probably assisted with the sale of his father's lands to Rev. Henry Jenney. In Pennsylvania, Henry was known for his surveying skills. He even helped layout the current city of Philadelphia. He also worked as a blacksmith and home builder according to his son Zebulon. Like his father, Valentine, he was a member of the Assembly under Penn's government, but for just one session in 1695. He became a large landowner in Chester Co., PA and New Castle Co., DEL. In 1697, he is likely the Henry Hollingsworth that was a witness in a deed in Chester Co., PA between John Simcock and Henry Swift. (C-2136) Again in 1709 he is listed as a witness in a deed record for Chester Co., PA according to Bryant's book of abstracts. Deed. On 16 Apr 1709 Isaac FEW, late of Chester, yeoman, to John FAWCETT, of Ridley, carpenter, for

Henry married Elizabeth (Lydia) ATKINSON on 22 Oct 1688 in Seagoe, Armagh, Ire. Elizabeth was born in 1660 in Seagoe, Armagh, Ire; died about 1740 in , Cecil, MD, USA. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]

    Notes:

Thomas was a member of the Provincial Assembly. He helped organize the Center MM in 1687. He married his second wife at the home of her stepfather, Nathaniel Park. He is in the Quaker records when his sister Mary was about to marry her second. He paid 4 pounds to his sister for the care of her children. She is return gave him a mare whose increase were to further the support of her children. This was required in the case of a second marriage where children were involved. (C-956)

Thomas purchased land in Cecil Co., Maryland known as "Jacob's Adventure" in 1713 but never lived on it. He willed this land to son Jacob on the 10th month, 30 day of 1725. Jacob sold this land in 1788. Thomas also sold 400 acres to John Thomson in New Castle Co., PA on Jan. 18, 1725. (C-956)

According to the book "Hopewell Friends History, 1734-1934", Thomas was killed by a bison near North Mountain, VA in 1733 when visiting his son Abraham. This has been discerned to be in error as far as date goes. He died at the age of 66 and is buried in the Center MM Friends Burial Ground in Christiana Hundred which is now a part of Delaware. (C-956)

The transcription of his will is as follows: Chris. Hd. Oct. 30, 1725. Apr. 13, 1727. South Carolina. I.186. Wife, Grace; sons, Abraham, Thomas, Jacob, and Joseph.; dau., Elizabeth Strode; dau., Hannah Dixson; dau. Sarah Discon, Grace Hollingwroth, William and Litisher Obery. Notes:

Catherine was a "zelous Quaker Minister". Her husband, known as Big George Robinson was not born a Quaker. This caused some concern when she married him. They first declared their intention of marriage on the 3rd day, 1st mo, 1687 at the Newark/Kennett Monthly Meeting in what was then Pennsylvania When they declared it a second time on the 7th day, 2 mo, 1688, friends asked them to wait to marry as they were still uncertain of it. This normally would have been the meeting where they would have been given consent. They again asked for consent on the 4th mo, 1688 and members were appointed to inquire of them on these intentions. The 5th mo, 1688, the meeting finally gave their consent. They finally married athe the monthly meeting held at Catherine's father's house on the 11th mo, 5th day, 1688. They had six children. Eli Jay has her listed as the d. of Valentine and Ann Calvert. That is because he has the marriage date of these two a decade earlier than most other sources. (C-1546, 2169E)

Catherine married George ROBINSON on 2 Nov 1688 in Newark M.M., New Castle, DE, USA. George was born about 1666 in , , , Ireland; died on 8 Sep 1738 in Newark, New Castle, DE. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]

    Notes:

Abraham moved first to Cecil Co., MD. He is probably the Abraham Hollingsworth along with Stephan Hollingsworth whose land was called "Partner's Parcel" and adjoined his father, Thomas's land known as "Jacob's Adventure." He moved to Winchester in 1733 after buying 582 acres from Alexander Ross near Winchester, VA in 1732. He named it "Abraham's Delight". Their home began as a log cabin. It was located on a creek and springs which enabled him to build the first flour mill in the county. In 1734 when his son George marries Hannah in Nottingham M.M., Maryland, Abraham's location is listed on the north side of Overton in the colony of Virginia. Abraham signed a petition in June of 1738-9 to request the clearing of a road in Orange Co., Virginia. (C-956) In his will dated Sept. 23, 1748 he bequests out 1232 acres of land, 1050 of which were on Opequon Creek near Winchester which was called "Abraham's Delight". Notes:

When George marries Hannah in 1734, his father, Abraham is listed as "late of Cecil County in Maryland but now (living) on the North side of Overton in the Colony of Virginia." His parents and the following siblings attended his wedding. Mary, Lydia, and Isaac Hollingsworth, plus probable spouses named Lydia, Mary and Mary Hollingsworth. Other close relatives in the right hand column were Isaac and Mary Parkins, Esther Harrison, Elizabeth Rerpo?, and Josiah Calvert. No Mccoys were amongst the guest list. George Hollingsworth was appointed Overseer of the road from Littlers to Hollingsworth's Mill in the Orange Co., VA Road Orders, Aug. 26, 1742. A George was listed in the Rent Rolls for Frederick Co., VA in 1759 and 1764 that is likely to be him. George was granted 350 acres of land in Craven Co., NC on a branch of Little River called Mudlick Creek on Feb. 3, 1767. He and his wife, "Jean", sold 155 acres of it to John Williams on July 1772. Witnesses were Joseph Hollingsworth, Quaker, George and James Hollingsworth (his sons). It also states that George gave some of his original land grant to son Joseph. Joseph gave it to David Hollingsworth. David sold it to James Burnside on Sept. 15, 1813-Jan. 1814. (C-2279)

In Medlin's book on Quakers of SC and Georgia, he lists two different George Hollingsworths. He attributes the following children to George II of the 96th District: Isaac b. 1748, d. 1809, James Sr. d. 1822 m. Sarah Wright, George, and Nathan. My other sources of information believe that these two Georges are one and the same and all the children are combined together. (C-265) None of George and Jane Hollingsworth's children appear in South Carolina death records. (C-820)

George married Hannah MCCOY on 19 Dec 1734 in , Frederick, VA. Hannah (daughter of Robert MCCOY, Sr.) died after 1748. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]
