  1. 1.  Helena HICKMANHelena HICKMAN was born about 1760; and died.

    Notes:

It is Robbie Duroblan's theory that the Joseph Coates living next to Helena Hickman's father John Hickman in South Carolina is the husband of Helena Hickman. His nickname might have been Josee Coates mentioned in some deeds of the time or her husband could be Josee Coates instead if he is not one and the same person as Joseph Coates. Pollard and Emilia Coates are mentioned in John Hickman's will dated 1811 as grandchildren and Helena Coates is listed as their mother.

Family/Spouse: Joseph COATS. Joseph (son of Joseph COATS and Elizabeth Ann MARR) was born before 1750; died after 1820 in Of Camden, Kershaw, SC. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]

  1. 2.  Pollard Hickman COATSPollard Hickman COATS Descendancy chart to this point (1.Helena1) was born on 13 May 1794 in , , SC, USA; died on 5 Apr 1845 in , Holmes, MS.

    Notes:

Pollard and Emelia are listed as grandchildren in their grandfather, John Hickman's will. Pollard married Patsy Smith and had the following children: William Duval Coates, Wiley Burton Coates, Wyatt Rankin Coates, Seleta Caroline Coates, Winston Smith Coates, Warren Glover Coates, Waverly Pinckney Coates, and Wayne S. Coates. He has matching DNA to a Gabriel Garrett Coats, b. 1801 in SC and Daniel Coats, b. 1804 in North Carolina who also lived in South Carolina. Pollard Coates moved to Holmes Co., Mississippi before he married. He is in Pike County on the 1820 census. Pollard shows up in Mississippi about the same time as Elijah and Austin Coates, whom Robbie Landry theorizes are also related. They all came from the same place in South Carolina. The way I am theorizing the breakdown, is that Elijah is older than Pollard and a step-brother to Pollard. Elijah's son Austin would be Pollard's cousin if my theory is correct.

Pollard married Martha SMITH on 9 Jan 1816 in , Lawrence, Mississippi. Martha died in 1844. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]

  2. 3.  Emelia COATSEmelia COATS Descendancy chart to this point (1.Helena1) was born before 1799; and died.

  3. 4.  Daniel COATSDaniel COATS Descendancy chart to this point (1.Helena1) was born in 1804 in , , NC; died after 1860 in , Titus, TX.

    Notes:

Daniel's DNA matches that of descendants of Pollard Coats of SC/MS and that of a Gabriel Coats of SC/North Carolina. Daniel moved onto Georgia and then Benton District, Alabama. He eventually settled in Titus Co., TX in 1860. It is Robbie Landry's theory that Daniel is a son of Joseph Jr. Coats.

Family/Spouse: Martha SMITH. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]
