1. | ![]() Notes: The following marriage might possibly be a 2nd marriage for Elizabeth if her husband, Thomas Wood, died before March of 1791. Elizabeth Wood, Virginia Marriages, 1785-1940 Elizabeth married Thomas WOOD before 1765. Thomas (son of Thomas WOOD and Sarah HART) was born in 1735 in Lunenburg, Lunenburg, Virginia, USA; died before 25 Feb 1793 in , Bedford, VA, USA. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]

2. | ![]() ![]() Notes: Jeremiah could have married more than once. There is a Jermiah Wood that married a Martha Feazle on Dec 7, 1829 in Bedford Co., VA. There is a Jermiah that marries Jane Preas on 12/29/1846 in that same county that also might be this Jeremiah. He is probably the Jeremiah Wood in Bedford County Census records in 1790, 1810, 1820 and 1840. In the 1810 one he is listed with 3 sons under age 10, 1 from 10-16, and he and his wife are between 26 and 45 years of age. They have 2 daughters under age 10, and 1 from 10-16. (CL-579) He and his wife, Mary Dooley Wood's cabin is still standing in what I am assuming is the National Park in Bedford County, Virginia. Jeremiah fought in the Revolutionary War with his wife's brothers. He was wounded at the Battle of Guilford Courthouse. Jeremiah married Mary "Polly" DOOLEY on 28 Dec 1796 in , Bedford, VA, USA. Mary was born in 1765; and died. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart] |
3. | ![]() ![]() Notes: She is listed as a Wood in family records and as a Donathan in court records, so which is her maiden name is not clear. She is listed as Rachel Wood Donathan in her marriage to Bartholomew indicating that she was probably married to a Donathan before Bart. Rachel married Unknown DONATHAN before 1793. Unknown died before 1793. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart] Rachel married Bartholomew Adams GASKINS, * on 7 May 1793 in , Bedford, VA, USA. Bartholomew (son of Josias Gaskins and Sarah Dameron, son of Greenwood GASKINS and Deborah "Leah") was born about 1762 in Maryland; died on 6 Aug 1850 in Of Ohio Twp., Gallia, OH, USA. 5. | ![]() ![]() Notes: Reuben Gaskins was on the 1827 Tax lists for Gallia Co., OH, not for owning land but for his chattel. He lived in Raccoon Twp. He paid taxes on Chattel for 1 cattle in Raccoon Twp. in 1818 and on 2 cattle in Gallipolis in 1824 and 2 cattle in Raccoon Twp., Gallia Co., OH in 1825. He is missing from the 1822, 1823, 1826 and 1828 Tax lists, whatever that means. Reuben married Julia EVANS on 24 Aug 1820 in , Gallia, OH, USA. Julia (daughter of Foster EVANS and Cecelia BRADLEY) was born about 1802 in Of Va, USA; died after 1850 in Of Gallia, OH, USA. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]

6. | ![]() ![]() Notes: Thomas may have had a wife before Phebe. A Thomas Gaskins married Betsey Jones on Dec 6, 1811 in Clermont Co., OH also. There were also two Thomas Gaskins in Clermont Co., one who was anywhere from a year to 20 years older than the other who might be confused with our Thomas Gaskins, son of Bartholomew of Gallia Co., Ohio The elder one died by Nov. 1852 as his estate was probated at that time in Clermont Co., Ohio (CL-500, 502) Thomas settled permanently in northwestern Pierce (Clermont Co. OH) then called Pleasant Hill around 1818. His children included Dr. Cyrus, Dr. John, William of Williamsville, Clermont Co., OH and Sylvester of Indiana, Jane, Hettie and Susan. The "History of Clermont County" states that he was a "practical farmer ..and.. an ardant Jacksonian Democrat." He was in the 1820 census for Clermont Co., OH, p. 26 with he and his wife between the ages 16 and 26, 1 son under age 10, 2 daughters under age ten, and he was employed in agriculture. He is in the 1830 census for Ohio Twp., Clermont Co., OH, page 218, between 30 and 40 years of age with a wife in the same age bracket, 2 sons under age 5, 1 under age 10, 1 from 10-15, 1 daughter under age 5, 1 under age 10 and 2 from 10-15. This is within 25 households of Jeremiah and John Gaskins' farms in Clermont Co., Ohio (CL-504, 505, 508, 569) Thomas married Elizabeth "Betsey Or Betse" JONES on 6 Dec 1811 in Clermont, Ohio, USA. Elizabeth was born about 1790 in , Augusta, VA; died before 1819 in of, Clermont County, Ohio, USA. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart] Thomas married Pheobe WARD on 3 Jun 1819 in Pierce Township, Clermont County, Ohio. Pheobe (daughter of Nehemiah WARD and Elizabeth CRANE) was born on 8 Nov 1794 in Newark, Essex County, New Jersey, United States of America; died on 17 Apr 1866 in Amelia, Clermont County, Ohio, United States of America; was buried about 12 Apr 1856 in Amelia, Clermont County, Ohio, United States of America. 7. | ![]() ![]() Notes: John was a farmer by trade, not to be confused with his nephew whom was a physician. He moved from Bedford Co., VA in 1824 to Clermont Co., OH where he purchased land previously owned by Ridley in Pleasant Valley. He is likely the John Gaskins who lived in Ohio Twp., Clermont Co., OH in the 1830 census. He was between 30 and 40. His wife was between 20 and 30. They had 2 sons under under age 5, and one from 5-10. He died there in 1879 of paralysis. (CL-504, 569) John married Hannah GILLMAN on 18 Dec 1825 in , Clermont, OH, USA. Hannah was born about 1806 in , , OH, USA; and died. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]

8. | ![]() ![]() Notes: James is a probable son of Bartholomew Gaskins of Rio Grande, Ohio In the 1830 census, he is living in Raccoon Twp., Gallia Co., OH, pg. 141, and he and his wife are between ages 20 and 30, with a son under age 5 and two daughters under 5 and one daughter between 5 and 10. (CL-495, 498, 499) His wife's name is theorized to be Nancy Evans, although she could have married his likely cousin James, instead. Family/Spouse: Nancy Anderson EVANS. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]

9. | ![]() ![]() Notes: Jeremiah Gaskins who lived two houses from likely brother John Gaskins in Ohio Twp., Clermont Co., OH in 1830 is likely to be this Gaskins. He was between age 20 and 30 in the 1830 census, and between 15 and 20 in age in the 1820 census. His possible mother-in-law is living with him, age 30-40. They have 2 sons age 5 to 10 in the household. He was age 47 born in VA in the 1850 Clermont Co., Ohio census. Note that his supposed sister, Jemima was also age 47, b. PA in the 1850 census. Family/Spouse: Catherine HOLDERFIELD. Catherine was born about 1800 in , , OH, USA; died after 1850. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart] |
10. | ![]() ![]() |
11. | ![]() ![]() Notes: Jemima is age 47 in the 1850 census for Clinton Twp., Vinton Co., OH with a birth place of PA clearly listed. However, in the 1880 census, she and her parents are listed as being born in Virginia. That disagrees with her father and her brother Abraham's census listing father Bartholomew's birthplace as Maryland. Jemima married John DEAL on 25 Jan 1826 in , Gallia, OH, USA. John was born about 1801 in , , VA, USA; died on 5 Feb 1887 in , Jackson, OH, USA. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart] |
12. | ![]() ![]() Notes: Her age range is based on the fact that she was between the ages of 20 and 30 in the 1830 census and was therefore the daughter who was age 10 to 16 in her father's household in 1820. Jane married Thomas BOILES on 15 Jun 1820 in , Gallia, OH, USA. Thomas was born in 1790; died after 1830. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart] |
13. | ![]() ![]() Notes: He lives in Raccon Twp., Gallia Co., OH near the other children of Bartholomew Gaskins and fits this son by age from the 1820 census. In the 1840 census for Raccoon Twp., Gallia Co., OH, he is listed between 20 and 30 with a wife the same age and two daughters under age 5. I can't find him in any other census for Ohio or elsewhere. (CL-563) Solomon married Sarah DANNER on 25 Mar 1832 in Clermont, Ohio, USA. Sarah (daughter of Jonathan DANNER and Elizabeth MOYER) was born in 1812 in Virginia; died between 1813 and 1906. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart] |
14. | ![]() ![]() Notes: Since Sarah married Jacob at a very young age in Gallia Co, Ohio, her family would also have lived in Gallia Co., Ohio at the time. In the 1820 census, there is only one family that had a daughter her age. This Baten/Bartholomew Gaskins lived in Raccoon Twp, and had 2 sons under 10, 2 under 16, 2 under 26, with 1 daughter of five and under ten (likely Sarah), 1 under 16, 1 between 26 and 45. He and his wife were above age 45. Their marriage date is in Gallia Co., records and her age is calculated from her age in the Federal Census records for Gallia Co., Ohio. If the census records are correct, she was at most age 12 when they married. His actual names from other records was Bartholomew Adam Gaskins. Sarah and her husband named a son after him, Bartholomew Adam Danner. There is another younger Sarah A. Gaskins, b. in 1837 who was living with Uriah Rose and Elizabeth Gaskins Rose in the 1850 census. She is probably Elizabeth's sister and likely granddaughter of Baten Gaskins, niece to this Sarah A. by age and place. Warren Lawrence theorizes that the younger Sarah A. is a daughter of Baten's son Reuben Gaskins.(C-513) Sarah married Jacob DANNER on 1 May 1828 in , Gallia, OH, USA. Jacob (son of Jonathan DANNER and Elizabeth MOYER) was born about 1805 in , Augusta, VA; died after 1874 in Raccoon Twp., Gallia, OH, USA. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]

15. | ![]() ![]() Notes: He is in the 1850 and 1860 census for Clermont Co., Ohio. In the 1880 census, he is listed as Abraham and is living with his nephew, Sylvester Gaskins, in Pierce Twp., Clermont Co., Ohio. In it, like in his father's 1850 census, it states that Bartholomew (his father) was born in Maryland. Family/Spouse: Elizabeth LITTLETON. Elizabeth was born on 27 Aug 1815 in Clermont County, Ohio, USA; died on 12 May 1876 in Pierce Twp., Clermont, OH, USA. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]

16. | ![]() ![]() Notes: She could be the Cordelia Gaskins who married James Burnett on Aug 21, 1845 in Gallia Co., OH, the Rhoda J. Gaskins who married Silas Boyers on 11/2/1848 in Gallia Co., OH, the Elizabeth A. who married Uriah Rose on 6/10/1849 in Gallia Co., OH or the Celia Gaskins who married Elijah Parry on Feb. 22/23, 1851 in the Gallipolis Journal. At www.ancestry.com in their "Ohio Marriages" they have listed Celia as Eclia, but I think this was just a typo. |
17. | ![]() ![]() Notes: In the 1850 census, Overton is listed as being born in VA. He was in the head of household position and Bartholomew, (age 88) his wife and infant son were living with them. This birth place doesn't quite make sense as Bartholomew lived in Gallia Co., OH by the 1820 census. Overton married Mary UNKNOWN before 1850. Mary was born about 1828 in , Augusta, VA; died after 1850. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart] |

21. | ![]() ![]() Notes: She was still single and living at home with her mother in 1860. Nancy married Isaac TOBIN, * on 12 Aug 1869 in , Gallia, OH, USA. 26. | ![]() ![]() Notes: She was single and living with her mother in 1860. According to a descendant, she was married to a Thomas Fee. She might also be the Rachel C.S. He was placed in the asylum in Athens, Ohio in 1877 where he died about 2 years later at the young age of 36. (CL-273) Family/Spouse: Jane E. WAUGH. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart] |

42. | ![]() ![]() Notes: James served in the Civil War in the 173rd Ohio Volunteer Infantry Regiment, Company C. He enlisted on Aug 15, 1864 at Centerville, Gallia Co, Ohio. He mustered into the service with the regiment of Sep 17 of that year. Within 3 months, by Dec. 23, 1864 he fell ill and was placed in the U.S. Army General Hospital Number 2 in Nashville, TN. He died in Tennessee on Jan. 21, 1865 from complications of Typhoid fever. He is buried in Nashville National Cemetery where a correspondent, Major Richard Blanton has seen his grave. His wife Nancy signed for his personal effects and was listed as living at Thurman, Ohio at the time. (CL-89, 444, 445, 454) Family/Spouse: Nancy Jane JINKS. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart] |
43. | ![]() ![]() Notes: In the 1870 Clay Twp., Gallia Co., Ohio Census he is listed at age 32 making his birth date as 1838 instead of 1840 as listed in earlier census records. In 1874 he might be the D. Danner living Section 18 of Perry Twp., Gallia Co., Ohio (CL-383, 590) Family/Spouse: Sarah Jane BENNET. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart] |

46. | ![]() ![]() Notes: John died in the Civil War in Tennessee while serving about a year. He was apparently discharged at Camp Pittsburg (Shiloh or Pittsburg Landing) before dying from disease in Tennessee and is buried in Nashville National Cemetery near his brother James Henry Danner. He was in the 31st Ohio Volunteer Infantry Regiment, Co. E or H which formed in Columbus, Ohio (CL-89,444, 445) There is a possibility that his birth date is miscalculated and that he married Margaret Gillen on Oct. 31, 1861. Also in Gallia County marriages, there was a John R. Danner who married Eliza Flowers on Aug. 22, 1864. (CL-190, 369) |
47. | ![]() ![]() Notes: Abraham J. Daner married Eliza J. Rusk on Nov. 29, 1865 at the bride's home according to a book of birth, marriage and death records for Gallia Co., Ohio. Abraham (Frank?) and Elizabeth Rusk had a son William Baxter and one daughter, Ellen S. Abraham is in the 1850 census (1 yr) with his father Jacob and mother Sarah and on the 1860 Census as 15 and is missing from the 1870 census. His wife and children, Elizabeth, William, then 3 and Ellen who is 1, are in the 1870 census living with or near her parents Samuel and Ellen Rusk in Addison Twp. Gallia, Ohio. In the 1880 census, William and Ellen are living with their grandfather Jacob in Raccoon Twp, Gallia Co., Ohio. Abraham likely is the one that served in the Civil War from March 8 1865 to Aug 24, 1865. Descendants of this line lived in Galion, Crawford Co., Ohio. Family/Spouse: Eliza J. RUSK.
