Paschal Conley II in photo with Teddy Roosevelt in Cuba. Part of the the First Volunteer Cavalry (1st U.S.V.C), commanded by Major General of Volunteers Joseph Wheeler, a long time Democratic Representative from Alabama. The Division included the Buffalo Soldiers of the 9th and 10th Cavalry Regiments from Ft. Leavenworth. The Buffalo Soldiers 10th Cavalry took the summit, with the Rough Rider banner soon following, although Roosevelt and the Rough Riders would get almost all of the credit.
