  She was just 18 when she married 40 year old David Miles Coats. She was left with 5 small children when he died after which she applied for a pension. She married about 11 years later to Thomas Black. The marriage didn't work and theyivorced and moved to Lawrence, Michigan. Her last husband was a good man and kind to her, but when he died, she was left in poverty, aged and nearly blind. She died while living with her son, Richard, in Monticello, Indiana.
